Introduction

The purpose of this page is to summarise all the concepts identified by PEPITe during various visits to farms.

From the environmental professional's point of view, these concepts can sometimes seem surprising, the PEPITe vision being a purely "IT" and an outside point of view on the functioning of a farm.

Concepts

These concepts have for a main objective to separate as much as possible the parameters and the data collected.

It should have the effect of facilitation and validation of the seizure of data, the system making itself the link between them. We identified four big concepts to be separated. You can find these four concepts in the site menu :

  • Farm : the farm structure and its parameters (spread through several Excel sheets).
  • Monitoring : data collected on the farm.
  • Tracking : tracking batches in the farm (present in sheets but in an implicit way).
  • Benchmarking : visualization of the data.

The Farm

This section includes all the formularies which allow configuration of the farm.

Most of the data of this section is constant or almost (example: species produced, colors and positions of tanks in the farm). This stage will thus only have to be completed once. It is also possible to indicate a change in the farm later.

Question : This information was not present in Excel sheets. Why did we add them ?
We added these formularies to be able to put forward a tracking system in the farm, which is impossible if we do not know the tanks on the farm and the parameters related to them.

The various stages to configure a farm :

  • General information : this is equivalent to the first sheet of the Excel file (without the 'specie' field. It contains some (additional) information as well as as e-mail address.
  • Productions : this page contains all the species in production on the farm. You can thus potentially have several species on a single farm.
  • Food : this page allows you to register once and for all the nutritional values of the food given to fishes.
  • Building/zones : this page allows you to define the various zones identified on the farm. This choice may be made according to your preference.
      Some examples:
    • A zone: "Global Zone"
    • Two zones: "Indoor" and "Outdoor"
    • Three zones: "Incubation", " Larval rearing ", "Nursery"
  • Water parameters : This page allows you to define one or several water circuits as well as their parameters on the farm. This formulary resumes the same information as the Excel sheets ("Water source", "Water system", "Typical Filter").
  • Lighting parameters : the same as before. This formulary resumes the parameters of the Excel sheets ("Light source", "Photoperiod", ...).
  • Tank: this page allows to define the parameters of a tank in your farm ("Name", "Tank shape", "Tank color", ...). Besides these parameters, you have to define three parameters namely :
    • Its position in farm (building/zone)
    • Its water circuit (Water parameters)
    • Its lighting parameters (Lighting parameters)
  • Parameters cycles : to insert the cycles parameters.

Monitoring

This section has as only purpose to associate information (for example the temperature) with a tank at some point. In summary, monitoring consists in associating a triplet of data (Date,Parameter,Value) related to a Tank. Actually, you have to use an Excel file which contains your measures (the same as in the Finefish Excel sheets). The system will insert automatically values by reading the file

Concerning the deformities reports, you have to fill manually the values. A deformities report is linked to a batch.

Tracking

This aim of this section is to notify the movements of batches and broodstocks in the farm. It also aims at inserting the quantity of food distributed in various tanks.

This sections includes all the formularies that allow you :

  • To add and modify broodstocks in the farm.
  • To add and modify batches in the farm. To note that there are two ways to add a batch :
    • From a broodstock
    • From a mixture of one or several "batches".
  • To notify broodstocks and batches movements.
  • To notify the quantity of food given at one moment in a tank

Benchmarking

There is no data to insert on this page.

This page will contain the current state of the farm according to the data which you will beforehand have inserted. The system will make the link between the structure of the farm (farm), the status of the farm (tracking) and the measured data (monitoring) and will take care to supply you the data under an exploitable shape by a software of DataMining and Benchmarking : PEPITo
